Organizational Setting

The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, "Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection". This Major Programme encompasses individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment, and radiation technologies, supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco, and Vienna. The objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes.

The Division of Human Health is organized into four Sections, enhancing Member States' capabilities in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of health problems through nuclear techniques within a quality assurance framework.

The Dosimetry and Medical Radiation Physics Section (DMRP) is responsible for quality assurance and metrology in radiation medicine, providing technical support to ensure safe applications of nuclear technology in radiotherapy, diagnostic radiology, and nuclear medicine.

Main Purpose

The consultant provides technical expertise to the DMRP Section regarding training activities related to Medical Physics and contributes to projects on training activities in medical physics for radiotherapy.

Functions / Key Results Expected

Provide technical input on developments in Medical Physics and Radiation Medicine.
Initiate the development of educational material for online training courses.
Review draft documents and training materials related to radiation technologies, dosimetry, and quality assurance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Qualifications and Experience

Medical Physics (master's) and Imaging or similar related fields.
Minimum of three years of working experience in dosimetry and medical physics.
Experience in aspects of quality management in medical physics.
Experience in developing educational material for clinical training in medical physics or medical use of ionizing radiation.
Excellent oral and written command of English and Japanese (required). Knowledge of other IAEA official languages such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish is an asset.

Remuneration

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of €150, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
